Best European Customer Support Software 2026

Eight European helpdesk and IT service desk tools ranked by review score, with hosting providers and owners disclosed. UK-based Plain leads at 8.2/10 overall.

Why European Customer Support Software Matters

Plain is the best European customer support software in 2026, scoring 8.2/10 in our published review ratings. Germany's Zammad follows at 8.0 and holds the highest EU-compliance sub-rating in this roundup (9.5). All eight products ranked here come from our customer support category. Seven are headquartered in EU member states (Germany, Slovakia, France, the Netherlands, and Denmark), while Plain is a London company in our "european" tier.

A support platform holds more than tickets. It stores customer names, order histories, call recordings, and the complaints people only share in private. The best-known incumbents are US companies: Zendesk, Freshworks (maker of Freshdesk), Intercom, and Front. On the IT side, ServiceNow is run from Santa Clara. Teams weighing a move can browse European options on our Zendesk alternatives, Freshdesk alternatives, Intercom alternatives, and ServiceNow alternatives pages.

Two Kinds of Buyer Under One Category Name

"Customer support" covers two different jobs, and this list ranks both on one scale. Six products are customer service helpdesks. Plain, Zammad, LiveAgent, Crisp, Trengo, and Dixa answer customers by email, chat, phone, and messaging apps. TOPdesk and EasyVista are IT service management (ITSM) platforms that run internal service desks, with incident, change, problem, and asset management built around ITIL-style processes.

The buyers rarely overlap. An IT department replacing ServiceNow should compare TOPdesk with EasyVista, not with Crisp. A webshop answering WhatsApp messages has no use for change management. Zammad's own review is clear that it is a helpdesk rather than an enterprise service management platform, so it does not bridge the gap either.

EU Hosting Rarely Means a European-Owned Stack

Seven of the eight are marked EU-hosted in our listings, but most of them run on US-owned infrastructure. Trengo runs on AWS in Frankfurt and Dixa on AWS in Ireland. TOPdesk lets customers pick a Microsoft Azure region in the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, or Sweden. Crisp's main host is DigitalOcean, LLC, a US company, on servers in the Netherlands and Germany. LiveAgent's European datacentres are run by Linode, now owned by Akamai. EasyVista lists French providers OVH, Outscale, and KDDI Telehouse alongside AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud.

Plain is the one product not marked EU-hosted. Its AWS eu-west-2 region is in London, which is UK hosting rather than EU hosting. Zammad is the only pick you can run entirely on servers you choose, because its Community Edition is self-hosted. Contracts deserve a look too: LiveAgent's terms are governed by Delaware law, and Dixa customers can sign with its US subsidiary under Delaware law.

#1 Pick: Plain β€” Best for B2B SaaS Support in Slack and Teams

1πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§London, United KingdomFounded 20208.2/10From $45/moRead full review β†’

Plain takes first place at 8.2/10, with 9.0 for EU compliance and 8.5 for both ease of use and feature depth. Not Just Tickets Ltd, incorporated in England in 2020, operates from London, so Plain sits in our "european" tier rather than the EU-member group. Battery Ventures, Index Ventures, and Connect Ventures back the company. Instead of ticket numbers, Plain uses threads, and one inbox gathers email, in-app forms, a help centre, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord.

Prices are in US dollars. Foundation is $45 a member seat each month when billed annually ($55 month to month), for 3 to 5 seats. That puts the lowest entry cost at $135 a month. Horizon costs $99 per seat on annual billing for up to 10 seats, adding Microsoft Teams, SLAs, business hours, and CRM sync. Frontier is custom-priced and is the only tier with SSO and SCIM.

Where it leads: A GraphQL API with a full object model, plus webhooks and a CLI, makes support programmable in a way conventional helpdesks are not. Slack integration is bi-directional, so engineers can answer customers without leaving Slack. Both AI agents, the customer-facing Ari and the internal Sidekick, come with every plan, and viewer seats are unlimited. SOC 2 Type II certification and a published DPA cover most procurement checklists.

Where it lags: There is no free plan, and the trial lasts only 7 days. Teams support and SLAs need Horizon, while SSO waits for Frontier. AI use draws on monthly credits at 100 per Ari resolution, so heavy automation means buying top-up packs from $10 per 1,000 credits. The threads model is a poor fit for high-volume B2C support. Hosting note: AWS London is a UK region, not an EU one, so we do not list Plain as EU-hosted. The UK's adequacy decision covers transfers for EU customers, but EU-only residency policies may still rule it out.

Best for: Developer-tool, API, and B2B SaaS companies whose customers raise issues in shared Slack or Teams channels. It suits teams whose support often turns into Linear, Jira, or GitHub work.

#2 Pick: Zammad β€” Best Open-Source Helpdesk for Data Sovereignty

2πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺBerlin, GermanyFounded 20168.0/10Free Β· from €7/moRead full review β†’

Zammad scores 8.0/10 and ranks above LiveAgent on the tie-break, with 9.5 for EU compliance against LiveAgent's 8.0. That 9.5 is the highest EU-compliance score in this roundup. Zammad GmbH is a bootstrapped Berlin company, founded in 2016 by Martin Edenhofer, who originally created OTRS. Its helpdesk unifies email, web forms, chat, phone through CTI, SMS, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Facebook in one ticket queue.

The Community Edition is free and open source under the AGPL, with unlimited agents on your own servers. Hosted plans run in German data centres and are priced per agent per month on annual billing. Starter costs €7 (€9 monthly) for up to 5 agents, with email, web form, and SMS channels. Professional, at €16 (€18 monthly), allows up to 35 agents and brings in chat, Telegram, SLAs, and a knowledge base. Plus costs €25 (€27 monthly) with unlimited agents and adds WhatsApp, Facebook, workflows, and phone support. Self-hosters can buy annual support contracts from €2,999.

Where it leads: Self-hosting keeps ticket data on infrastructure you control, and our review notes no telemetry or phoning home. S/MIME and PGP email encryption are built in, a feature most commercial helpdesks still lack. Elasticsearch search covers every ticket, note, and attachment. Optional AI features cost €0.03 per call on hosted plans and can run on a self-hosted Ollama model. Value for money scores 8.5/10, level with LiveAgent for the best in the roundup.

Where it lags: Self-hosting calls for Linux administration skills, since Zammad is a Ruby on Rails app that needs PostgreSQL 15 or later, Redis, and a reverse proxy. Integration ecosystem scores 6.5/10, joint-lowest here, with fewer marketplace apps than Zendesk or Freshdesk. Knowledge base and self-service portal features are basic. Hosted plans also gate channels, so chat needs Professional and WhatsApp needs the €25 Plus plan.

Best for: Government, healthcare, legal, and finance teams that need support data on infrastructure they control, and budget-conscious teams with Linux skills. IT departments needing asset management should look at TOPdesk or EasyVista instead.

#3 Pick: LiveAgent β€” Best for a Helpdesk With a Built-In Call Centre

3πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡°Bratislava, SlovakiaFounded 20068.0/10From $15/moRead full review β†’

LiveAgent also scores 8.0/10, with the roundup's best integration-ecosystem score (8.5) and joint-best value for money (8.5). Quality Unit, s.r.o. has developed it in Bratislava since 2006, and the Slovak business register shows its two founders as sole shareholders. Named customers include NASCAR, Hyundai, and Slido. The platform combines email ticketing, live chat, social messaging, and a native VoIP call centre in one inbox.

Governing-law note: Delaware law governs LiveAgent's terms of service, and disputes go to Delaware courts. A US sister company, Quality Unit, LLC, is registered in Wilmington, Delaware, and holds the copyright notice on LiveAgent's website. The service provider named in the terms is still the Slovak company, but buyers who require EU governing law should negotiate that into their contract.

Prices are in US dollars per agent per month. Small costs $15 on annual billing ($19 monthly) and covers email ticketing, live chat, AI agents, and a knowledge base. Medium, at $29 ($35 monthly), adds the call centre with IVR and SLA management. Large ($49, or $59 monthly) adds WhatsApp with 5 numbers and an audit log, and Enterprise ($69, or $85 monthly) raises that to 20 numbers. The free plan is gone, but a 30-day trial needs no card.

Where it leads: The native call centre covers IVR menus, skills-based routing, call recording, and real-time monitoring with no third-party telephony provider. AI agents come with every plan. More than 200 native integrations reach Salesforce, Shopify, Magento, Pipedrive, and Slack, and API access is included throughout. EU customer data sits in datacentres in Germany, the UK, and Slovakia.

Where it lags: Ease of use scores 6.5/10, joint-lowest in the roundup, because the interface feels dated and initial configuration takes time. Reporting is shallower than Zendesk's. The entry Small plan has no call centre or SLA management. LiveAgent holds no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification, and its hosting provider, Linode, belongs to the US company Akamai.

Best for: Support teams of roughly 10 to 100 agents that take phone calls alongside chat and email and want one vendor and one data flow for all three.

#4 Pick: Crisp β€” Best for Live Chat and Messaging on a Small Budget

4πŸ‡«πŸ‡·Nantes, FranceFounded 20157.7/10Free Β· from €45/moRead full review β†’

Crisp scores 7.7/10 and ranks above TOPdesk on the tie-break, with 8.5 for EU compliance against TOPdesk's 8.0. Baptiste Jamin and Valerian Saliou founded it in Nantes in 2015, and Crisp IM SAS is still bootstrapped and run by its two founders. One shared inbox holds live chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS, and other channels. A knowledge base, chatbots, and a basic CRM sit alongside it.

Crisp prices each workspace rather than each agent, bundles seats into every plan, and quotes prices before VAT. Visitors see euros or US dollars by region, but the figures match. The Free plan includes 2 seats and 100 customer profiles. Mini costs €45 a month for 4 seats, Essentials €95 for 10 seats, and Plus €295 for 20 seats, and each additional seat costs €10 a month. Every paid plan includes credits for the Hugo AI agent, from about 90 automated conversations a month on Mini to about 1,350 on Plus. A 14-day trial needs no card.

Where it leads: Ease of use scores 8.5/10, joint-highest here. Co-browsing and live typing preview, which shows what a visitor is typing before they send, came from high-end enterprise platforms and are included from the first paid plan (Mini). Bundled seats keep growth cheap, so a 15-agent team on Essentials pays €95 plus €50 for five extra seats. AI models from US providers are disabled by default, and Mistral is available as an EU option.

Where it lags: Support quality scores 6.5/10, the lowest in the roundup, and the French business register puts the team at 10 to 19 employees. Chatbots and workflow automation start on Essentials, a steep jump from free to €95. Search and filtering trail mature helpdesks such as Zendesk, and the plugin marketplace is smaller than Intercom's. Hosting note: the EU servers in the Netherlands and Germany are run by DigitalOcean, LLC, a US company, and Crisp publishes no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification.

Best for: Small websites, ecommerce shops, and growth-stage teams that want live chat, messaging apps, and AI answers at a predictable per-workspace price.

#5 Pick: TOPdesk β€” Best for IT and Facilities Service Desks

5πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Delft, NetherlandsFounded 19977.7/10From €61/moRead full review β†’

TOPdesk scores 7.7/10 and is the higher-ranked of the two IT service management platforms here. Development began in Delft in 1993, while Top Informatie Systemen B.V., the holding company, dates from 1997. Co-founder Wolter Smit is still CEO. TOPdesk runs incident, change, problem, and asset management for IT teams, and sells the same engine to facilities and HR through shared portals.

Ownership note: In December 2023, CVC Growth Funds bought a significant minority stake, bringing in outside capital for the first time. ACM, the Dutch competition regulator, approved it as joint control shared between CVC and the founders' holding. We still class TOPdesk as independent, though a private equity backer that shares control will normally plan to sell one day.

Unusually for ITSM software, TOPdesk puts its prices online. On its German pricing page, Essential is €61, Engaged €86, and Excellent €120 per agent per month excluding VAT, with the average price falling as agents are added. The UK page shows Β£51, Β£72, and Β£101 instead. View-only light agents cost nothing and have no cap, and the same goes for assets, tickets, and end users. Billing terms, minimum seats, and any free trial are not given on the pricing page.

Where it leads: Buyers can budget without a sales call, whereas ServiceNow sells by quote only. Customers choose an Azure hosting region, and SaaS environments are managed by staff in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Denmark. An annual SOC 2 audit maps controls to ISO 27001, and TOPdesk reported 99.96% uptime for the first quarter of 2026. Its review found the enterprise service management side strongest, with add-ons for room reservations and visitor registration.

Where it lags: Change and problem management, core ITIL processes, start on the €86 Engaged plan, so the €61 headline mostly suits incident-only desks. Robin, the AI assistant launched in September 2026, needs Excellent and is too new to judge. The SaaS runs on Microsoft Azure, a US hyperscaler. A 2026 management reorganisation brought a new CPO, sales head, and CTO, and the marketplace is smaller than ServiceNow's.

Best for: Mid-sized IT departments in municipalities, universities, hospital groups, and manufacturers that want ITIL processes running quickly at a known price. Our ServiceNow vs TOPdesk comparison sets out where the US platform still goes further.

#6 Pick: Trengo β€” Best for WhatsApp-First Omnichannel Support

6πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Utrecht, NetherlandsFounded 20177.6/10From €299/moRead full review β†’

Trengo scores 7.6/10 and ranks above Dixa on the tie-break, with 8.5 for EU compliance against Dixa's 8.0. The company, Trengo B.V., was founded in Utrecht in 2017, raised a $36 million Series A in 2021, and reports 100+ employees and 1,500+ customers. It is an official Meta WhatsApp Business Solution Provider. One team inbox carries WhatsApp, email, live chat, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, SMS, and voice.

A 2026 repricing lifted the entry point sharply. Boost costs €299 a month on annual billing (€349 monthly) for 10 users and 6,000 conversations a year. Pro, at €499 (€599 monthly), covers 20 users and 18,000 conversations a year and adds API-based custom integrations, third-party AI Actions, and live chat and phone support from Trengo. On annual billing, each extra user is €25 on Boost or €40 on Pro, and extra conversations cost €15 per 100. Enterprise is custom and includes full voice calling.

Where it leads: Trengo's WhatsApp tooling includes template messaging, broadcasts, and verified business profiles. Service conversations on WhatsApp carry no Trengo conversation charge. Ease of use scores 8.5/10, joint-highest here, and new agents need little onboarding. HelpMate, the AI agent, suggests and sends answers under team supervision. The platform runs on AWS in Frankfurt under Dutch-law terms.

Where it lags: Value for money scores 6.5/10 after the repricing, and there is no free tier. Every AI-handled conversation carries a €0.25 surcharge on annual billing (€0.30 monthly). Reporting is limited next to enterprise platforms, and the app marketplace is smaller than Zendesk's. Sub-processors include US providers such as AWS, Twilio, and OpenAI.

Best for: Mid-sized ecommerce and D2C brands where WhatsApp and social messaging carry as much traffic as email. The €299 monthly floor rules it out for very small teams.

#7 Pick: Dixa β€” Best for Ecommerce Teams With Heavy Phone Volume

7πŸ‡©πŸ‡°Copenhagen, DenmarkFounded 20157.6/10From €89/moRead full review β†’

Dixa scores 7.6/10, with 8.5 for feature depth. The operating company, Dixa ApS, was founded in Copenhagen in 2015 and targets consumer and ecommerce brands. Phone, email, chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and SMS are native in every plan, with IVR, call recording, and callback from the entry tier. No shareholder holds a majority, and US investor General Atlantic has the largest stake, in the 20 to 24.99% voting band.

Prices are per agent per month. Growth costs €89 on annual billing (€109 monthly), Ultimate €139 (€169), and Prime €179 (€215). Mim, the AI agent, costs €0.40 per conversation on every plan, including conversations it hands off to a human. Co-Pilot, Quality Assurance, and voice transcription cost extra. Dixa offers neither a free plan nor a self-serve trial, since every rollout starts with a demo.

Where it leads: Native phone means no separate contact centre product, which is Dixa's main difference from Zendesk-style stacks. Per-conversation AI pricing is easier to forecast than per-resolution billing. Native Shopify and Klaviyo connections sit among 35+ integrations on Growth. EU customer data is stored on AWS in Ireland, and Dixa ApS contracts under Danish law by default.

Where it lags: The €89 seat sits well above Freshdesk or Zendesk entry seats before add-ons, and value for money scores 6.5/10. Financial note: Dixa's 2024 annual report shows group headcount down from 233 in 2022 to 140, a USD 12.0M net loss, and slightly negative equity at year end. Danish tax authorities preliminarily ruled against its 2021-22 R&D tax credits, which Dixa contests. Founder Mads Fosselius handed the CEO role to Christian Lohmann in August 2025. Customers can also sign with Dixa Inc. under Delaware law, so check the contracting entity.

Best for: Mid-sized ecommerce and consumer brands that handle many phone calls and want helpdesk, contact centre, and AI agent under one contract. Ask for current financials before a multi-year commitment.

#8 Pick: EasyVista β€” Best for Enterprise ITSM Beyond the Service Desk

8πŸ‡«πŸ‡·Noisy-le-Grand, FranceFounded 19887.2/10CustomRead full review β†’

EasyVista ranks last at 7.2/10, with the lowest value-for-money (6.0) and EU-compliance (7.5) scores in the roundup. EASYVISTA SAS, the company behind it, dates from 1988 and has its registered office in Noisy-le-Grand, just east of Paris. The EV Platform pairs the EV Service Manager help desk with asset discovery, remote support, monitoring, and digital experience tools.

Ownership note: Paris private equity group Eurazeo took a majority stake in 2020, with Cathay Capital, also of Paris, as co-investor. Its US and Canadian companies are subsidiaries of the French group rather than parents of it. EasyVista completed its purchase of over 90% of OTRS AG in December 2024, adding the German company behind OTRS, the software Zammad's founder first wrote. OTRS is still sold under its own brand.

EasyVista publishes no prices. Its pricing page ends in a request form, with quotes built from the modules and number of users, so we cannot give a per-agent figure. The site claims savings of over 50% against alternatives, a marketing figure to test against a three-year cost comparison.

Where it leads: Feature depth scores 8.5/10, with discovery, monitoring, and remote support on the same platform as the service desk. No-code configuration and EV Pulse AI handle automation, and its generative AI sub-processors include two EU providers, Mistral and Konverso. French hosts OVH, Outscale, and KDDI Telehouse appear on its sub-processor list, and an EU customer is hosted in the EU by default.

Where it lags: The same list includes AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud, and the page does not say which one a given tenant uses. We found no public ISO 27001 or SOC 2 statement. EasyVista Holding SAS reported a net loss of about €18.5M on €47.9M revenue in its 2024 accounts, which exclude OTRS. There is no public roadmap for how EV Service Manager and OTRS will relate, and ease of use scores 6.5/10.

Best for: Large IT estates leaving ServiceNow, BMC, or Ivanti that want a French vendor with comparable breadth and already run formal procurement. Buyers who want public per-agent rates should price TOPdesk first.

Which Should You Choose?

Start with the buyer type. If you run an IT or facilities service desk, only TOPdesk and EasyVista are built for you. Customer-facing teams should choose from the other six.

  • B2B SaaS support in Slack, Teams, and Discord: choose Plain.
  • A free, self-hosted helpdesk with full data control: choose Zammad.
  • Phone, chat, and email from one vendor at a low per-agent price: choose LiveAgent.
  • Live chat and messaging for a small team, starting on a free plan: choose Crisp.
  • An IT and facilities service desk with published prices: choose TOPdesk.
  • WhatsApp-first support for a mid-sized team: choose Trengo.
  • Ecommerce support with heavy phone volume and per-conversation AI: choose Dixa.
  • Enterprise ITSM with discovery and monitoring, bought through a formal tender: choose EasyVista.

How We Chose

Every product with customer support as its primary category and a full review is ranked here. Rankings follow the overall rating in each product's published EuropeanStack review, which scores six dimensions: ease of use, feature depth, value for money, EU compliance, support quality, and integration ecosystem.

Where two products share an overall score, the higher EU-compliance sub-rating wins, then value for money, then alphabetical order. Three ties needed that rule, and EU compliance settled all of them. At 8.0 overall, Zammad's 9.5 beat LiveAgent's 8.0. Crisp's 8.5 beat TOPdesk's 8.0 at 7.7, and Trengo's 8.5 beat Dixa's 8.0 at 7.6.

All pricing comes from each product's verified data. Each of the eight was last verified on 9 October 2026: Plain, Zammad, LiveAgent, Crisp, TOPdesk, Trengo, Dixa, and EasyVista. We did not test any product hands-on; the ratings reflect documented pricing, hosting and sub-processor disclosures, company filings, and feature sets as published by each vendor.

Notable Exclusions

Aircall and Wildix list customer support only as a secondary category. Their reviews cover a cloud business phone system and a unified communications platform respectively, so both are judged as telephony and video-conferencing products rather than helpdesks.

Tidio and Userlike are primarily live chat tools and are ranked against that brief in our live chat category. Plain and Trengo also list live chat as a secondary category, but customer support is their primary one.

Parloa, Ebbot, and Gradient Labs are AI agent platforms for customer service, filed in our AI assistants category. They automate conversations on top of a support operation rather than replace the helpdesk itself. Infobip also lists customer support as a secondary category, but its primary category is SMS gateways.

Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, and Front are not European. Plain, Crisp, Trengo, and Dixa all appear on the Intercom alternatives page, while Plain, Crisp, and Zammad are listed on our Front alternatives page. Zammad, LiveAgent, Crisp, and Dixa are listed as Freshdesk alternatives.

ServiceNow is the incumbent both ITSM picks target. OTRS has no separate review; it is now owned by EasyVista and sold as its own brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best European customer support software?

Plain is the top-ranked European customer support software in 2026 at 8.2/10, ahead of Zammad and LiveAgent at 8.0. As a UK company built for B2B SaaS teams, it is not EU-hosted, so buyers who need EU hosting should look first at Zammad. For IT service desks rather than customer service, TOPdesk (7.7/10) is the highest-rated ITSM platform here.

Is there a free European helpdesk?

Yes. Zammad's Community Edition is free and open source, with unlimited agents on your own servers. Crisp offers a permanent Free plan with 2 seats and 100 customer profiles. LiveAgent offers a 30-day trial without a card, Crisp a 14-day trial, and Plain a 7-day trial. Dixa has no self-serve trial, and EasyVista sells by quote only.

What is the best European alternative to Zendesk?

It depends on the job. Zammad (8.0/10) is the open-source choice for ticketing, and LiveAgent (8.0/10) adds a built-in call centre from $29 per agent on annual billing. Crisp and Trengo suit messaging-led teams, while Dixa suits ecommerce brands with heavy phone volume. Plain fits B2B SaaS companies that support customers in Slack.

What is the best European alternative to ServiceNow?

TOPdesk is the higher-rated European ITSM platform at 7.7/10, with prices from €61 per agent per month excluding VAT on its German pricing page. EasyVista (7.2/10) offers broader scope, including discovery and monitoring, but sells by quote only. Neither matches ServiceNow's app ecosystem, so large estates needing deep workflow engineering should test that gap.

Which European helpdesks keep data in the EU?

Seven of the eight are marked EU-hosted in our listings, but most rely on US-owned providers. Trengo uses AWS in Frankfurt, Dixa AWS in Ireland, Crisp DigitalOcean servers in the Netherlands and Germany, and TOPdesk Azure regions customers choose. Plain hosts on AWS in London, a UK rather than EU region. Self-hosted Zammad is the only option that runs wholly on infrastructure you pick.
